...we can wait for ISIS or DAESH to save us with something so horrible it galvanises the world, so ready to fight, that they join against what is a real menace, the enmity which has driven us apart. Indeed, it is possible for Russia, USA, China, and a whole host of countries, to be on the same side.

...i want to educate, and i want to communicate the observations i have made that are useful. I remember that the audience is the many who do not respond, but read. If there is any effect on the readership, i feel that they deserve the three sides to the story, we are not "Greeks" and "Turks", in this case, because the Cyprus Problem is framed wrongly. Cypriots lose, Cypriots are denied their voice. It is not possible to defend "one" side, against the other "side", Cypriots died as a result of this Ignorance, and it should be obvious to the "Greeks" and the "Turks" that despite their best efforts after all this time, Cypriots still exist.
For it to have "two sides", as in a reasoned debate, the "Greeks", the Turks", the "Maronites", the "Armenians", the "Latins", (and dare i say it, the "English") which have the same needs as Persons, and as a set, the Cypriot Constituencies, they would be equal to the Federal Government, 'bicommunally' speaking (, and by the intention of the Republic's Constitution). This is my opinion.
I believe in Cyprus, and i know that it is a wonderful opportunity for Cypriots to demonstrate the same kind of courage toward the betterment of all Mankind.

Turkey police thwarted against ISIL

...an interesting perspective, one which all Citizens of Turkey should consider, because there will be a post-Erdogan era.
What with the elections that will likely come soon, my fear is that he will take advantage of the fact that the other political parties are likely exhausted, financially speaking, and those shoe boxes gone missing so to speak, may be emptied in the coming elections somehow.
What with the fatigue Turkish electors have gone through, my fear is that they will take the "safe" bet, for their security, and the economy, seemingly at risk without the guidance of a man more experienced. But Turkey needs new thinking, as does Turkey's friends and neighbours, Erdogan, it seems, only represents "Turks".

I strongly recommend re-viewing some episodes of "Yes Minister" and think of it in a Cypriot context.
The potential solution would be to have the officials of the regions assume parallel federal duties. However, I fear that the solution proposed by both our political classes will be for a separate and additional federal civil service.
We will know soon enough.

...well said Nikitas. multi-tasking comes to mind, an everyday occurrence computers now facilitate, and given where we are in space and time, Cypriots must prepare to enter the Information Age, Cyprus must be prepared to develop this new thinking at its advent, into their reform as a People. The technological frontiers having changed, so too must we adapt from the aims that were started by the Modern Age.
Bicommunal is not evil, neither is Bizonal, the danger lies in the intentions of those who seek to give them a definition.

Re: WHO WOULD YOU INVITE TO A FAMILY DINNER

.
Pardon me, fortunately my feelings don't get easily hurt, i am not here to make simple conversation, or friends, although i am grateful that i feel i've made some, but Cyprus.
...indeed, i am an outsider looking in. Except for my family what do i have, in Cyprus? I dream, someday, that i can spend my days enjoying something of the trees and water i knew so well, the gentle wind, fields of golden wheat under the setting sun, under the stars, the smells i will never forget, yes, even the sounds of the city (which was Varosha, for me). I would have liked to have known them better, too bad for me.
I had a home, and now i live in houses, i love Cyprus, i don't think you do as much, you live in it, i ask myself if you live it. Indeed, i would not sit at your table, for my feelings of unworthiness, not by your judgement, but my own. With my grief, i am damaged goods as is said, like a rape victim i feel shame, a broken man, if i sit at someone else's table it is very rare, why would i, what do i have to talk about?
...i would still invite you to my table, if such a day would come, even though i know now your feelings toward me (a bit more clearly), not for your sake, or mine, worthy, or unworthy, but to celebrate that day in a Cyprus Free. If you did not join the rest of us by your own choice out of this joy, i say that would be telling.

While you may be willing to get whatever is "free", Freedom remains the big question, remind me Lordo, which side are you on? Sadly, like many in Cyprus, then, the days you talk about, we stayed, and we were betrayed.

Turkish cleric laments reaction to Charlie Hebdo attack while millions of Muslims massacred

...it is the Prophet himself who says that Muslims respect the Law of the land in which they live, to avoid what is not suitable for their lives, but most of all, to be loving; at least this is what I understand of this Faith.
I ask Mr. Gormez, where is the "good" in this revenge, where is the goodness in these men that he defends them? By any definition their acts are brutal, selfish, Criminally Psychotic, without Grace, unlike Mohammad, and his worthy depiction as a man, by Hebdo Charlie just yesterday, who forgives and who can cry.
My hope is that upon reflection, the goodness seen in People, will be as Individuals, by the Directorate of Religious Affairs, in Turkey. That for this good office, every being counts, without distinction or discrimination. This is what is worth his time and effort, because we are all equals, in our duty to God, and as Human Beings, to each other, even if as Persons there exists a wide array of choices.
I suggest that 12 million died in Muslim countries and, that millions more died too, by fighting each other; this must stop. Bigger enemies than this Ignorance exist where by Hatred, war is waged worthily, ending the Hunger and Disease.

well said Nikitas. Frankly i am surprised that GR does not agree with you, I too think that Cyprus may well do a better job at sustaining the Hellenes as a PEOPLE.
...especially since as a People, we are Cypriots, and as Persons living in this context there exists a Constituency demographically speaking that is by a large percentage, people who care about their being Greek. Like Hellenes around the world they need to feel connected to each other, not necessarily to Greece. In effect "Greekness" is bigger than what is defined geographically today as a Nation/State. Greeks can take pride in what Greeks do in Greece, but Greeks are more Citizens of the World, they come from its four corners, and for so long they did not even "have" a country; you don't have to be "Greek" to be Greek, (no less true in Greece but that is another story,) Greeks should not be reluctant to define themselves as such.

Now the important part. The will to have an independent state is totally unconnected with our ethnnic origin or background. In the last resort we want an independent country cause etsi en i kavla mas sior! and for no other reason that we have to justify to anyone.
